Service with a smile

Do you want to straighten your crooked teeth? Are you looking to boost your confidence and finally have a smile you are happy with? In our clinic we are dedicated to personalised dental care. We hope to make you feel relaxed and comfortable in our state-of-the-art surgery. We offer each patient an individual and personally tailored treatment plan. We will discuss and advise of all treatments and ensure you are receiving the most comprehensive service.

We offer various different options, depending on preference and suitability. You will first attend for an initial consultation with our dentists. Together you will decide on the path of treatment you desire. X-rays and photographs will be taken of your jaw and face. So people require some teeth to be removed in order to make room for the teeth once they have been realigned.

One of the treatments available to you is the traditional wired braces. This involves a mould of your mouth and teeth being made. Brackets are fitted around your teeth and wires are then attached. The wires are gradually adjusted as your teeth move to the desired position.

We are also able to offer a more discreet and faster teeth straightening service. This is in the form of a clear removable retainer. This method is very desirable and more convenient, due to the fact that it is easily removed and cleaned.

If you are looking for affordable, subtle and modern braces in Cambridge, then look no further. Contact us at Burwell Dental and we will be happy to assist.

What will treatment involve?

You will attend for an initial consultation with a dentist, who will assess and advise you of the most suitable treatment. All this will take place at our clinic in Cambridge. Braces are not usually recommended in children under the age of 12. Most patients are suitable for treatment, but sometimes tooth extraction may be required first in order to allow enough room for the teeth once they have straightened. All this will be discussed and a treatment plan formulated.

There are two different kinds of braces that we are able to offer here, and depending on your individual circumstance and suitability, we will recommend the treatment which will have the most successful outcome. At Burwell Dental, Cambridge, braces are either fixed or removable. Removable braces have the added benefits that they can be easily cleaned and can be used at an earlier age.

We will discuss and advise of all treatment prior to commencing and will always ensure you are happy and comfortable. All treatment will take place here in Burwell, Cambridge; braces are first custom built by making a mould of your gums and teeth. Our orthodontist will then fit this to your teeth. We are able to offer various colours, as well as clear or ‘invisible’ wires, which are very desirable.

Treatment can take anything up to 18 months for a fixed brace. With removable braces treatment can take between six and nine months.

Straighter teeth for a brighter smile

Do you have crooked, crowded or gappy teeth? Struggling to keep them clean and feeling awkward about your smile? There’s no need to keep carrying this burden. At Burwell Dental in Cambridge, braces are on offer to straighten your teeth, restore your dental health, and bring a smile back to your face.

teeth-straighteningWhy are straighter teeth important?

Aside from the cosmetic improvements that straighter teeth can bring, your dental health is also improved. Crooked teeth mean more places for food to get stuck and bacteria to build up. Brushing is often not effective enough at getting into these difficult to reach nooks and crannies. This can ultimately increase your chances of tooth decay and gum disease. Gum disease in particular is known to have knock-on effects on your general health. Braces in Cambridge offer a way to avoid all of these unsavoury consequences for your dental health.

What kinds of braces are available?

At Burwell Dental we offer both fixed and removable braces in Cambridge. Removable braces are ideal for shifting the position of individual and small groups of teeth. Cleaning your braces is made easy as you can simply take them off. However for more extensive teeth straightening, fixed braces are the way to go. Metal brackets and wires are fitted around your teeth. These are adjusted every four to six weeks by one of our highly trained dentists. We will also provide you with guidance on how to keep both your braces and your teeth clean during your treatment. For fixed metal braces this is usually in the order of 12 to 18 months.

Aren’t braces just for kids?

Absolutely not. Achieving straighter teeth is a great idea whether you are a child or an adult. At Burwell Dental, we cater to both. Adults may be put off by the idea of wearing fixed metal braces, however there are now alternatives, including clear braces.

Straighter teeth can have a significant impact on your life. The confidence that comes with a more aesthetically pleasing smile can enhance your professional and personal relationships.

Call or email us to arrange your first consultation and enjoy straighter teeth with braces in Cambridge.

Get the best out of braces in Cambridge

Crooked and crowded teeth can leave you feeling self-conscious about your smile and make dental hygiene more of a challenge. At Burwell Dental in Cambridge, braces offer a reliable and effective solution to straighten your teeth. We cater to both children and adults, offering brighter smiles at any age.

braces-in-CambridgeWhen is the right time to get your teeth straightened?

The answer to this question depends on several factors, including: the number of adult teeth you have, how crooked they are, and the health of your teeth and gums. Conditions such as tooth decay and gum disease need to be treated first, as once your braces are fitted these issues could worsen. Fixed braces should only be used once all of your adult teeth have come through. In the meantime however, we offer removable braces.

Fixed versus removable

Removable braces can be taken off to make cleaning easy. They are usually used to shift an individual tooth or small groups of teeth. This treatment course takes six to nine months.

Fixed braces offer a more holistic treatment of your teeth. Metal brackets are glued to the fronts of your teeth and a wire is used to connect them. Every four to six weeks your fixed braces are adjusted to gradually move your teeth into place. Complete treatment can take up to 18 months.

Children often prefer to customise their fixed braces with different coloured bands around the brackets. For adults wanting a more subtle look, tooth-coloured braces are often preferred.

Keeping your braces clean is key to ensuring your dental health is maintained during your treatment. This can be especially tricky with fixed metal braces, however we are always here to help with advice on how to keep both your braces and teeth clean.

How cosmetic dentistry in Cambridge can create the smile of your dreams – whatever that may be

Cosmetic dentistry in Cambridge is about making smile dreams come true. It’s about boosting your body image, confidence, and sometimes your health, too. Cambridge clinic Burwell Dental Surgery offers a wide range of cosmetic dentistry options, both minor and major, designed to create the perfect smile for you.

cosmetic-dentistry-in-newmarketThink of what the words “ideal smile” mean to you, and you’ll probably come up with vastly different answers to your family and friends. That’s because every smile is just as unique as the person behind it, and why at our Cambridge dental clinic everyone who comes in for a cosmetic dentistry consultation will be listened to closely, and will have a customised treatment plan drawn up, detailing the procedures or combination of procedures that are right for them.

When you come into Burwell Dental Surgery in Cambridge for a cosmetic dentistry consultation, you will be met by a skilled cosmetic dentist, who will carry out a detailed examination as well as finding out what your dream smile looks like.

You may need just one treatment, or may benefit most from a combination of two or more. Among the popular cosmetic dentistry options at our Cambridge dental practice are:

Teeth whitening

A dentist is a must for this procedure, the most popular in the world of cosmetic dentistry. Never consult anyone other than a dental professional for teeth whitening, and never try the DIY approach – at best, you’ll be left disappointed, while at worst you could damage your teeth or gums.

Professional teeth whitening is carried out using an approved dental bleaching agent and teeth whitening trays. It can be carried out in the surgery or at home, and is effective on such stains as those caused by red wine, tea, or smoking.

Veneers

Veneers are thin porcelain shells, much like false nails from the teeth (although much stronger). They can be used to cover permanent discolouration where teeth whitening won’t work, to improve the look of badly spaced, slightly chipped, or mildly misaligned teeth.

Teeth straightening

Straighter teeth are often requested in cosmetic dentistry. Cambridge is where we are based and at our clinic we use the popular Six Month Smiles cosmetic, tooth-coloured braces.

Smile!

Do you ever think about the importance of your smile? Charles Darwin was the first to truly study the power of a smile. Smiling is universal. No language or culture change the meaning of a smile. Physical actions and body language can vary between cultures. We all understand a smile and the feelings it can provoke.

braces-in-NewmarketA smile can also affect your professional life too. A smile is reliable and trustworthy. Interviewers are likely to find potential employees far more appealing if you use your smile.

It also takes far fewer muscles in your face to smile, than to frown.  It takes 47 muscles to frown and only 17 to smile! There are so many options available to you to enhance your smile. Cambridge braces could but just the start you need to a happier you.

Burwell Dental uses all this information to understand the power they have in providing you with the smile you deserve. Braces in Cambridge could be the option for you!

Can I have braces?

Braces in Cambridge are a fundamental, and important part of our dental care offerings at Burwell Dental.

First, our highly trained orthodontists will need to know what concerns you have about your smile. You will then undertake a detailed examination and they will take photographs of your face and teeth, to examine the best course of treatment for you.

All our brace treatments are custom-made to each client. Your options will be discussed thoroughly with you, as well as any potential problems or limitations with your treatment.

Does it hurt?

Braces in Cambridge are continually evolving to provide minimal discomfort to our patients. Advances in dental technology and sedation techniques have assured this.

Invisible braces, Cambridge, are becoming a much more widespread choice. They give you the ability to choose the length of your treatment, and can even show results in as little as 6 months. We offer varying options, from a fixed invisible brace, to an easily removable brace.

The invisible option provides our patients a new and fresh way to view braces. They can be almost invisible to the naked eye, providing a more aesthetically pleasing process.

Straighten up with braces in Cambridge

Crooked teeth are a problem faced by both children and adults alike in Cambridge.Braces are used to straighten crooked teeth and whether you’re fourteen or forty can give you a renewed sense of confidence. At Burwell Dental in Cambridge, braces are on offer to help you achieve that winning smile.

braces-in-newmarketFixed or removable: the two kinds of braces explained

Fixed braces are the go to option when teeth are very crooked. They are individually fixed to each tooth and so cannot be removed by the patient.

Removable braces are used for straightening individual or groups of teeth and are ideal in younger patients whose adult teeth have not yet all come through. They are easy to clean and often used before moving on to fixed braces.

When is the right time to get braces?

There are two main factors we consider before fitting braces.

Firstly, the number of adult teeth you have. Fixed braces are fitted once all the adult teeth have come through. Removable braces can be used in the meantime.

Secondly, the condition your teeth and gums are in. Any tooth decay or gum disease needs to be taken care of before braces are fitted to avoid these conditions worsening when the braces are worn.

When the time comes to fit the braces, patients may experience some discomfort during the fitting and for a few days after. However the experience is not painful.

How long will I need to wear braces for?

This depends on how crooked the teeth are to start with, what kind of brace is used, and how well the brace is taken care of. It is important to keep the braces clean and in good condition. At Burwell Dental we provide our patients with all the information and advice needed to do this.

Treatments last anywhere from six to eighteen months with visits every four to six weeks to monitor your progress and help you achieve your goal of straightened teeth.

Yellow or grey teeth? You need cosmetic dentistry

The adult population is embracing the range of treatments that cosmetic dentistry in Cambridge offers. At Burwell Dental Surgery, we are particularly proud of the treatments we can offer and passionate about the positive results they have on our patients. A key concern of patients interested in cosmetic dentistry in Cambridge is discolouration of their teeth.

cosmetic-dentistry-newmarketSo why do teeth become discoloured?

There are a variety of reasons – some avoidable and some not. They fall into three categories – extrinsic, intrinsic and age-related. We’ll look at each type.

Extrinsic discolouration is damage to the enamel on the outer layer of the tooth. Nowadays, drinking coffee and red wine is often to blame for changes in colour. There are also some foods that can stain teeth. Patients who smoke are also more prone to problems with discolouration.

Intrinsic stains occur when the dentine, which is the inner structure of the tooth, becomes darker or yellower. There are several causes for this.

  • Excessive exposure to fluoride during early childhood
  • If a patient’s mother used tetracycline antibiotic during months 5-9 of the pregnancy
  • If the patient themselves used tetracycline antibiotics before the age of 8
  • Trauma affecting a developing tooth during childhood, such as a fall
  • Trauma to a permanent tooth or internal bleeding
  • Dentinogenesis imperfecta, a condition that some people are born with. It causes purple, amber or grey discolourations.

The final type is age-related. Mostly unavoidable, it is a blend of extrinsic and intrinsic staining. It is natural for dentine to yellow over time. In addition, as we age, the enamel on our teeth becomes thinner and this reveals the yellowing dentine behind. It is also possible for damage to teeth such as a chip can lead to discolouration.

So what can be done? Well, most extrinsic staining can be removed with professional cleaning, or whitened by using a bleaching gel. Some patients’ teeth are darker following a root canal. In this can the dentist can bleach the inside of the tooth or recommend the patient considers having a crown or veneer fitted. Veneers are basically thin layers of ceramic the cover the outside of the teeth.

All these treatments and more are available if you look for cosmetic dentistry in Cambridge. Don’t let discolouration ruin your smile.

Improve your smile the easy way

Cosmetic dentistry covers a wide range of services and treatments, so if you are looking for cosmetic dentistry in Cambridge, it’s important to know what is available to you. Burwell dental offer cosmetic dentistry in Cambridge to existing patients, as well as new patients looking for a specific service.

Let’s take a look at some of our most popular services for cosmetic dentistry.

cosmetic-dentisrty-NewmarketProfessional teeth whitening

Power bleaching is one type of cosmetic dentistry in Cambridge that can help make your teeth a few shades whiter. The dentist will place a rubber seal around your teeth to protect your gums and put the bleaching gel onto your teeth and use a bright light to speed up the lightening process. This treatment usually takes one or two hours, and depending on your teeth you may need more than one session. The dentist will be able to advise on this for you.

If you do not want to sit in the dentist chair to have your teeth whitened, it may be possible to whiten your teeth at home. If this cosmetic dentistry treatment is suitable for you, your dentist will give you a specially made mouth tray and some whitening gel. You can usually wear the mouth tray for up to eight hours per day, over a period of about two weeks. However, this does vary from patient to patient, so don’t be alarmed if your times are slightly different to this. Whatever happens, it is always imperative that you follow the dentist’s advice, in order to achieve the best results.

Removable braces

Cosmetic dentistry is great because there is usually a solution for everyone! Removable braces can be taken out of your mouth at any time. They are made of plastic and usually have wires to encourage the movement of specific teeth. Removable braces are a common cosmetic dentistry procedure, especially if upper teeth need realigning.

Fixed braces

Fixed braces (sometimes called ‘train tracks’) are fixed in place and not removed from your teeth until your treatment is finished. Fixed braces are glued to your teeth and joined together with a wire, normally popular amongst young people and teenagers, more and more adults are opting to have them as part of their cosmetic dentistry treatment, mainly thanks to the great results they achieve.

Straighten things out

If you are one of the people in the UK that have less than straight teeth, you may have always wondered how a straight smile would look on your face. You may have crooked or misaligned teeth, large gaps, twisted or protruded teeth. Perhaps you an overbite, underbite or a crossbite. Teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean and are at risk of being lost early because of tooth decay or disease. It is now easier than you think to straighten out that smile, with braces in Cambridge at Burwell Dental.

straighten-teethOur dentists will diagnose, treat and prevent irregularities of the teeth with the use of braces. Braces are fixed or removable dental appliances. These devices can be used to straighten teeth, correct an irregular bite, close unsightly gaps and bring teeth into proper alignment.

What are my choices?

In general, we have two options available: fixed or removable braces.

Fixed braces: This type of brace is fixed to the teeth with a special glue and therefore cannot be removed by the patient. Fixed braces are the best options for more severe cases of misalignment. They can be customised for children (e.g. their favourite colours), and adults may want to choose clear, near-invisible options.

Removable braces: This type of brace is best used with individual or small groups of teeth, and can precede fixed brace treatment. They are convenient and easily cleaned. Removable braces can be used at an earlier age than fixed braces.
